Restaurant style pizza the traditional Napoli way served from a VW Kombi van, cooked to perfection in a Ferrari red pizza-oven. That’s three big ticks and one food Kombi not to be missed!
Q&A with Pizzaiolo (Pizza Chef) and founder, Luca Ferone (who we chatted with while he was on a pizza pilgrimage in Naples, Italy!)
How does the name “Pizzantica” represent your food truck?
In Italian, Pizzantica means ancient pizza, so for us, it represents the authentic and unique nature of our concept, traditional pizza on a traditional old icon, the Kombi.
What inspired your food truck?
My passion for food and vintage vehicles, and by bringing these two elements together, it allows me to bring great food, service and fun to food lovers at their place of convenience, with our Funky VW Kombi and Ferrari red oven!
What three words describe your food?
Traditional, Napoli style, enjoyable, local ingredients- Oops, I know that’s more than 3!
What’s your “must try” menu item?
Always a tough question, because our customers love all of our pizza’s, but I think that the Alle Patate (Potato Topped Pizza) is the one that really surprises people with how tasty and more’ish it is.
There is another food truck parked right beside you, why should we line-up for you?
Once you taste our pizza, it’s irresistible, you will always keep coming back!! That’s not my opinion, but that of my many regulars.
Your favourite foodie event?
Oh dear, that’s too tough a question. We put a lot of energy and passion into all the events we attend and thoroughly enjoy serving our food to the great folks of the South East, who are very discerning and appreciate a good feed! There are sooo many great spots.
Your top tip for elegant eating when there aren’t any tables left to sit at?
For me it’s about great company, good food and great memories, and for that, you could sit anywhere, as long as you are with someone special and a plate of tasty food – I think that the current street food trend highlights this!
Your on-the-road soundtrack?
I love Bruce Springsteen, probably My Hometown, the version with Tracey Chapman
If you could park your truck anywhere in Queensland for a day, where would it be?
Mmm.. Parliament House? hahahaha… no, Point Lookout – Straddie!! Love that place.
Chips and gravy go together like Pizzantica and…
What makes Pizzantica the “King of the Road”?
Passion… We are driven by our passion for great food, festivities and good times with the lovely folks we share our food with.
